THE “VALIDATION POLICY” FOR 2009 IRONMAN AUSTRALIA TRIATHLON

2009 IRONMAN AUSTRALIA - NEW ENTRY POLICY

The 2009 Ironman Australia Triathlon in Port Macquarie will continue with the policy introduced in 2008 where athletes no longer need to qualify for the event.

In place of the qualifying system, is a ‘Validation system’ with Australian athletes having to compete in, and simply complete, one of the races in the 2008 / 2009 Australian Half Ironman Series or Ironman Western Australia.

International athletes do not need to validate their entry into Ironman Australia.

Multi Finishers – please see below exemption for validating for entry into Ironman Australia.

Ironman Australia Entry Procedure:

  1. Entries open for all athletes 1 July 2008. Enter and pay online at www.ironmanoz.com
  2. Ironman Australia Multi Finishers (5 times or more Ironman Australia finishes) are exempt from validating their Ironman entry.
  3. International entries are exempt from validating in the Australian Half Ironman Series but are required to have completed a Half Ironman Triathlon.
  4. Intending Ironman Australia competitors can entre online either BEFORE or AFTER they have finished one or more of the Half Ironman Series races required to validate their entry.
  5. The confirmed entry list will be continually updated after each validation race. The final Ironman race field will be confirmed after the final race of the Series ie the Ironman 70.3 Geelong event in February 2009.
  6. Failure to validate by the final race of the Series will mean an automatic withdrawal from the 2009 Ironman Australia. In these cases, athletes will be withdrawn and will receive 50% refund of entry fee.

Cancellation Policy – withdrawals and failure to validate

Withdrawals received in writing up to 5pm on Fri 3 April 2009

 

Refund of entry less $200 administration fee

Withdrawals received from 5pm on Fri 3 April 2009 onwards

No refund

 

Failure to validate by 9 February 2009 (Australian entries only)

Athletes will be withdrawn from the 2009 Ironman Australia field and will receive 50% refund of entry fee. This policy will be strictly enforced

Ironman AUSTRALIA Multi Finisher Policy
Athletes who qualify for Multi Finisher status (5 or moreIronman Australiafinishes) do not need to validate their entry to Ironman Australia 2009.

Pro Policy
Athletes holding an Australian Pro license must validate their entry (even if Free Of Charge) to compete at the Ironman Australia. 10 invitational athletes will be exempt from this policy rule.
