IMPORTANT INFO FOR ALL COMPETITORS – PLEASE READ!
2008 SNAP IRONMAN 70.3 GEELONG – SUNDAY 10 FEBRUARY

On behalf of the IMG Team consisting of Race Director Ken Baggs, Event Manager Kim Phillips, Athlete and Media Manager Shane Smith, Event Co-ordinators Glenda Baggs, Josh Iraia, Jo Tusa, Chris Muirden, Veeraja Uppal and Mike & Gail Ashbolt, I would like to extend a big thank you to all competitors, sponsors, Western Suburbs Tri Club Directors, Volunteers and the Team from the City of Greater Geelong who helped make the inaugural Snap Ironman 70.3 Geelong a raging success last weekend.

Geelong blessed us with perfect weather for a Triathlon and we did the rest. The feedback on the course has been extremely positive across all Swim, Bike and Run legs. There was a real buzz about the place, helped by the great performances in the Women and Men Pro fields led by our own World Champ Mirinda Carfrae and Male winner Leon Griffin.

With over 1,000 individual competitors on the start line and 60 Teams, we are set for a very solid future of Ironman 70.3 in Geelong. We already have plans with the City of Greater Geelong to extend the Ironman Village and improve the course to be ready for an even bigger influx of competitors next year. With over 350 interstaters and 50 internationals this year, we expect this event will continue to grow as this distance continues to grow from strength to strength worldwide.

Congratulations to those of you who took up a qualifying slot for the 70.3 World Championships in Florida in November. With the Event also being the ‘final’ event of the Snap Australian Half Ironman Series, we say a big thanks to everyone who has contributed to the Series and look forward to seeing many of you at Ironman Australia in Port Macquarie in April.

Best Wishes

Dallas O’Brien
Event Director, IMG
